El primero y más evidente es el uso de los dos acentos, problema que Tolkien no llegó a resolver en vida, según se explica en RC:209: Tolkien alternaba el uso de dos acentos, uno y ninguno, aunque en escritos posteriores al SA parece haberse decantado por usar dos; esto llevó a los editores posteriores a seguir ese camino, aunque el texto en sí de SA sólo se homogeneizó con la edición del 50º Aniversario (2004). Así es que la traducción castellana refleja esta variación: en 2:II:42 de <a href="ed-esdla.html#i3" onmouseover="window.status='El Señor de los Anillos'; return true;"><b>sa-M-3</b></a> se omiten los dos (<font class="esp">Numenoreano(s)</font>), detalle corregido en <a href="ed-esdla.html#i4" onmouseover="window.status='El Señor de los Anillos'; return true;"><b>sa-M-4</b></a>; en 2:I:135 de todas las ediciones consultadas por nosotros se ha dejado <font class="esp">Númenorean</font> (un solo acento y sin "o" final), y en el resto de SA, como también en S, se han usado, notablemente, los dos acentos con regularidad. En ATB, por otra parte, aunque todos los originales usan un solo acento, la traducción optó por la forma regularizada con dos. El segundo problema es el uso de mayúsculas: en inglés es normativo usarlas para cualquier derivado de un nombre propio, mientras que en las traducciones de Tolkien al castellano lo normal y aconsejable parece ser usar mayúscula cuando la palabra aparece como sustantivo, en especial para referirse a los Númenóreanos como raza o nación, y minúscula cuando es un adjetivo, p.ej. cuando se habla de "la lengua númenóreana". La traducción, sin embargo, sólo ha usado minúsculas en S:IN:5 (<i>North Downs</i>), tal vez por descuido, y en todo ATB, allí sí siguiendo el criterio recién explicado.
